I recently learned that the young generation is throwing around the acronym YOLO which means, “You only live once.” I’ve seen this trending on twitter and as a call sign in Black Ops video games since I heard about it. This really bothered me when I read about what it means.
There are some aspects of this that I agree with. Our time here is limited. So, if you are using YOLO along with something good like giving your time to volunteer. I’m with you. If you are using it to enjoy every moment of your life, I’m still with you.
There is more to consider here though. When I purposed the question above, “Do you only live once?”, I already had an answer in mind. As Spiritual People we know better than that. We know that you have many lives and each one is carefully charted out. We know that our Soul and the consciousness of our minds continue on through many lives. The concepts of YOLO and past lives are mutually exclusive.
Let’s look at the flip side. YOLO could be used as an excuse to do harmful things or dodge responsibility for actions. I’m a little worried about this because there will be karma for harmful things. Karma is the answer to dodging responsibility for your actions. One of the scary things about karma is that it can follow you from one life to the next. So, if someone is using YOLO to do harm or dodge responsibility in this life it can affect them in their next life. Next thing you know, here it comes, “Why is this happening to me?”.
Always, always, always do good and be positive. You can’t turn back time or change things that are in the past. The present will be the past shortly. Make it count for good. I purpose a new acronym, YLIS for “Your Life is Short”.
