Introduction
My journey into understanding the connection between diet and spiritual growth began unexpectedly when my mother was diagnosed with Syndrome X. My first thought was, “That sounds made up.” It’s also known as Insulin Resistance, a condition often described as a precursor to diabetes.
The Syndrome X Connection
There is a book on the subject. It is called Syndrome X: The Complete Nutritional Program to Prevent and Reverse Insulin Resistance. It’s ISBN number is 978-0471398585. The Authors are Jack Challem, Burton Berkson M.D., and Melissa Diane Smith. The book itself isn’t really that useful unless you enjoy reading all about the subject. Keep in mind this is a time before Dr. Oz had a TV show telling you about these type of things.
In particular there are a couple chapters that are valuable. Chapter 9 is about the Syndrome X diet. In short this diet is about eating less processed foods. It’s amazing what happens to your body when you start to cut out the highly processed foods or the foods with a high-glycemic index. I experienced rapid weight loss because I was exercising regularly. In fact, I dropped down to a near perfect BMI. Then I started to notice certain foods made me feel really good—not just physically but mentally and emotionally. Some of these super foods are broccoli, olives, spices, and grapes.
My Journey with Migraines
There was one thing that Syndrome X diet didn’t solve for me though and that was migraines. Keep in mind that I am not a doctor and this is intended only to show my experiences. Your experience may differ. I found a site that talked about serotonin. When serotonin was high it would cause migraines. If it got even higher it could trigger seizures. I had also experienced seizures which my doctor called Panic Attacks.
I come to realize there were migraine triggers that I didn’t have much control over like the weather. Before a storm rolls in there is an ionic change that can raise serotonin and trigger a migraine. If I didn’t get enough sleep or changed my sleep schedule in some way, it might trigger a migraine. I read a little further and found that sugars can trigger an increase in serotonin. Much of this is based on my personal research and experience; consult your medical provider for advice tailored to your needs.
Migraine pain is a very powerful motivator. I was beginning to think that something I was eating was triggering the migraines. My growing fear of certain foods led me to question whether I was developing disordered eating patterns. Then it dawned on me—I might be lacking essential nutrients. I started putting every mineral I could think of into Google with deficiency this or that. I found information on Chromium and Magnesium that started to make sense. Magnesium seems to help regulate serotonin and Chromium seems to help blood sugar. Now, you have to understand that I went a roundabout way of finding this information out because it is right there in Chapter 14 of the book mentioned above. Perhaps, I should have read it through a bit more.
The Spiritual Connection
What does all this have to do with the spiritual? First of all, when I was searching for this information, my guides may have helped to get me on the right track. Especially, when I realized it was the lack of something and not something I was eating. Something I learned in the last couple of weeks is that being in good health is one way you can raise your spiritual vibration.
If you are not familiar with vibration, Spiritual vibration refers to the energy you radiate based on your thoughts, actions, and overall well-being. It is the concept that all good things have a high vibration and bad things have a low vibration. A higher vibration is most useful for mediumship. When I began prioritizing my physical health, I noticed a deeper connection to my intuition and a sense of peace in my meditative practices.
Key Takeaways for Raising Your Spiritual Vibration
While my journey began with physical health challenges, it became clear that improving my diet had a profound impact on my spiritual well-being. As I balanced my body’s needs, I felt a sense of clarity and alignment that extended beyond the physical.
Through this experience, I realized that good health can elevate our spiritual vibration. When we take care of our bodies—our physical vessels—we create space for deeper connection, intuition, and growth. Looking back, I also believe that my spiritual guides played a role in helping me find the right path, nudging me toward solutions when I felt lost.
Have you noticed how your diet affects your mood, energy, or spiritual practices? Consider starting a food journal to identify patterns and insights. Start by choosing one aspect of your diet to reflect on—whether it’s reducing processed foods, adding nutrient-rich options, or simply noticing how certain meals make you feel. Small changes can lead to profound shifts in your energy and spiritual journey.
Beyond food, remember that spiritual well-being is also influenced by rest, exercise, and mindfulness practices. Together, these elements support a high vibration and deeper spiritual growth. Always remember the mind, body, spirit connection.
